Oh wretched man that I am!

But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.  1 Corinthians 2:14

In order to fulfill the things of God, we must walk after the Spirit and not after the flesh.  As I stated in my article Two types of man, there are only two types.  No alphas, no gammas, etc.  There is a carnal man, which we are when we are born.  In order to attain Christ, we must be re-born in the Spirit (John 3:5).  Then we become a spiritual man.   The Apostle Paul goes into this in more depth in Romans 8 and in 1 Corinthians 15.

Let me emphasize that we come to Jesus, old things are passed away.  We put off our old man, and become a new man in Him.  This is because Jesus resides within our Temple.  We cannot become a new man of our own efforts.  This is carnal.  While the Mosaic Law was holy, it was imperfect because it was involved performing ordinances.  Jesus put away the Law for its imperfections.   We are in a New Covenant.  The glory of the Mosaic Law reached its end in Jesus.   Paul says in Romans 8:3-4

For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Hebrews 7 goes into this in more depth, that the Mosaic Law made no man perfect.  That isn’t to say there are not things in the Mosaic Law that we still obey but they are included in the Law of Christ, for we know that the Law is fulfilled if we love God and love our neighbor.  Agape love fulfills the whole of the Law.

Paul said “If any man be in Christ he is a new creature.” 2 Corinthians 5:17  The spiritual man is a new creation, a new beginning.  We are no longer the same person we were before our re-birth.

I said that to say this, the Red Pill “Christians” (among them Donal Graeme) believe that a woman still possesses the same nature that she had before she became a Christian, that without a husband to control her through his “godly masculinity” she cannot overcome her “base” nature, and will forsake her wedding vows.  He believes that during much of history legal law kept woman’s base nature under control, but that with Feminism this is no longer possible.  While I agree with them that Feminism has sought to destroy the institution of marriage, and masculinity in our society the Christian manosphere denies the power of God to transform a woman from her natural self to a spiritual woman.  For indeed, what of women who have not a husband, virgins and widows?  How do they avoid the temptations of the flesh?  They have no godly man to adore and be attracted to (please!).  They may desire a husband, but they don’t run amuck without one.   They believe that the man exhibits the godly qualities to attract and hold her.   Is it not then Jesus Christ who works through her in their marriage?  Or is it the man?

A Christian woman certainly needs the spiritual leadership of a godly man.  I am not an egalitarian, and will be the first to admit that woman does need to submit to her husband in order to protect her from following in the deception of Eve.  This does not mean that women alone can be tempted or that man on his own can prevent that temptation.  It takes the power of the Holy Ghost and agape love to accomplish this.  Ephesians 5 is accomplished through agape love, but agape love is only possible through the workings of the Holy Ghost.   Demonstration of the Spirit.

Galatians says that self-control is one of the fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:23).  While the head of man is Christ, it still requires the Holy Spirit working in the woman to follow her husband in godliness.  Without the power of the Spirit, no amount of righteousness on his part is going to make her follow him.  No amount of faith, self-control, etc, etc.  is going to get her to submit to his leadership.  I have seen women walk away from godly men walking in the Spirit simply because she fell away from the Spirit, and lost faith.

Woman naturally has a desire to control her husband.  She can only overcome this through the power of the Spirit which will help her to submit to him.   Man is required to love her as Christ loved the Church, sacrificially, providing her the spiritual leadership that she needs to insulate her from external temptations.  Her husband then reinforces the power of the Spirit working in her, by teaching her, leading her.   Self-control is of the Spirit, not of her attraction to her husband’s godliness.  Both man and woman are tempted of Satan to forsake wedding vows if they do not maintain their marital relationship (1 Corinthians 7), not just woman, so it’s vital that in addition to following the order of marriage, that they maintain the sexual aspect of marriage.   The man models Christ, but ultimately it is the Spirit that is going to accomplish these things.

Lastly, I want to emphasize that if it was only the man’s righteousness that kept a woman under control, this would negate 1 Peter 3:1 which indicates that a godly woman can win her unsaved husband through her submission to him.

The Red Pill Christians need to submit themselves to the power of the Holy Ghost so that they will understand that it is not by their power, nor their might but by demonstration of the power of the Spirit.  They must learn that their righteousness is as filthy rags, and that both man and woman need the Spirit in order to attain to stable Christian marriages.

The power of the Gospel

This is a copy of a post from my other blog, The Glorious Wife

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.–Romans 1:16

Let’s face it, everybody wants to rule the world these days.  That old song of Tears for Fears came to my mind this morning, as I considered gender roles, but also doctrines competing for our mindspace.

Growing up, I didn’t have Jesus.  Oh, He called me at an early age, about five,  I think.  But somehow, I got disconnected.  I was tossed to and fro in the world.  One church, another.  My sister used to read someone called Ram Dass.  Though Catholic at the time, she also read some Eastern junk.  In my twenties, I was into New age stuff, exploring Catholicism, yoga, anything.    I was really looking for the power of God.

Thankfully, after wandering many years, a young man came to me and told me the truth about Jesus.  I went to an apostolic pentecostal church.  That is, we follow the apostle’s doctrine, and we believe in the experience they had in the Book of Acts, that it is still valid for us today.  I absolutely believe in the supernatural power of God to manifest itself in our world.

You see, Christianity is more than just the teachings of Jesus.  It isn’t all theologies and philosophies.  Oh, here, the gospel is incomplete so I will throw in this little pet thought of man’s wisdom.  NO!   A truth is only valid if it supports the whole truth of the Bible.  Thy word is truth.

First of all, most of what passes for science is theory.  Evolution is theory.  Different psychologists will have different studies about different things.  But does it support the Gospel?  My problem with evolutionary psychology isn’t just that it is unproven.  It is that it is based on the natural, the physical.  I am hard-wired, it’s in my DNA.   Some Red Pill “Christian” bloggers like to say that a woman, though Christian, is still a woman and needs instruction and control so that she will not violate her marital vows.  Woman run amuck!  Paul in his Second Epistle to Timothy (2 Timothy 3:5) wrote: Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.  He says they are ever learning and never coming to a knowledge of the truth.

Jesus came to Nicodemus and spoke to him of a New Birth.   Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. John 3:3.  Nicodemus could only see with the natural eye, the natural mind.  Can a man crawl back into his mother’s womb?

Jesus goes beyond the natural, takes us to a higher level.  First came the earthy man.  Lastly comes the spiritual.  All things are made new.  No matter how the natural man was in the beginning, God through Christ, takes us to the spiritual, which is the true substance, while the rest is shadow.  Jesus can change, TRANSFORM, who we are.  I was born that way.  Yes, but through Jesus you can be RE-BORN.

Women are hard-wired to want to control their environment.  We get so used to managing our homes, our children, that we see the man as an extra child we have to feed, clothes, take care of.    But God never intended that we should control our husbands.  So how do we OVERCOME our wiring?  How do we become the submissive, virtuous, woman of strength and honor God wants us to be?

But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.–Acts 1:8

We look at the commandments of Ephesians 5, and we think these things can be done through our human power alone?  Submit to our husband?  What?  Love your wives?  What?  Agape, unconditional love?  Boy, that stretches my DNA.  That stretches my natural man to its limits.

The gospel isn’t just about teachings.   Jesus wasn’t just a teacher.  Doctrine yes, is essential, but doctrine can only be accomplished through the Spirit.   It was only after the miraculous outpouring of the Holy Ghost that the people followed the apostle’s doctrine.   I don’t care what your natural man is like; have you become a spiritual man?  If you believe our future in Christ is only through the natural formations of our DNA, of our hard-wiring, then you need to come into the Holy of Holies with me.

Have you received the HOLY GHOST since you believed?

All mankind is sinful

What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin;  As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:  There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God….For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;  Romans 3:9-11, 23

The red pill is full of generalizations that red pill proponents, and Rollo Tomassi like to pass of as iron-clad rules.  AWALT (all women are like that) is just one of many.  If it is based in the biology of women, then yes, there can be some basis for it, but many of their theories are not.  Even the theory that women are attracted to men based on what they can provide is not a hard and fast rule observable in society.    While generalizations can be true according to logic, they have to be verified.    The red pill likes to paint women as egocentric, which I am going to put forward as not being verified.   However, I will have to go into that in more depth later.    From my readings, I am not seeing any kind of empirical evidence, but rather theory, even in Rollo Tomassi’s writings, that all women are egocentric.

My purpose for this article, however, is to show that from a biblical standpoint, all men and women are failures in their nature.  No one person can say they are righteous.   Not when they are held up to God’s standards.  The Mosaic Law while holding up righteous laws and principles, could not be upheld by a people who were still living in the carnal natures they inherited from Adam.   The Law failed, because as Paul points out, perfection cannot come through our flesh.  It has to come through the Spirit of God.

Adam and Eve’s failure in the Garden of Eden, which I will write on soon, showed that both men and women are susceptible to temptation and sin.  Eve failed, because as a woman she is susceptible to being deceived.  Adam failed because he willfully disobeyed God, not being able to exercise self-control and retain his dominion, not only over Creation, but over himself.

In regards to our modern society, both men and women need to realize that they are sinful in order to make things right.  Feminism is a highly destructive force fueled by socialism and tries to invert God’s order, establishing the rule of women.  However, the Men’s Movement, of which the Red Pill is part, and Rollo Tomassi specifically, do not correct things.  They purport that they are trying to restore masculinity, but they do this at the expense of women, which is clearly against God’s principles and purpose for His Creation.   The only hope for humanity as a whole is for all, men, women, Jew, Gentile, to come to Jesus Christ and let him restore Godly order.

Mankind, in it’s natural state, cannot make himself perfect.  We fail.  Our flesh tempts us.  We are all in that sense selfish, only wanting to please our flesh.   Paul goes into this at length in Romans 8 when he shows how his body wants to do one thing and his mind tries to correct it.  He at last exclaims, “O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? (1)”    Lust takes root in our hearts and sin is the product.  The Law gave a temporary solution in that it allowed for atonement of sins, but it was not perfect because it was carried out by priests who would eventually die themselves.

Jesus Christ became the perfect sacrifice for our sins in that He was without sin, and because He lives forever to make intercession for us, so that the intercession, the atonement is continual before God.  We repent of our sinful nature, turn from sin, and die off to ourselves daily.   This is the only way that both men and women can become righteous and to deny our selfish natures.
